Detectives Investigate Serious Collision in Barnesville

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a serious collision that occurred this afternoon in Barnesville and are asking for the public’s help in locating family members of the driver of one of the vehicles.

On Saturday, October 12 at approximately 2:30 p.m., 5th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Barnesville Road at Peachtree Road for the report of a serious collision that had just occurred.

Preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle was traveling north on Peachtree Road and a 2015 Jeep Cherokee was traveling west on Barnesville Road.  For reasons still under investigation, the Beetle and the Cherokee collided in the intersection.

The driver of the Beetle, 68-year-old Gary Douglas Saltsman of Cathedral Avenue in Northwest, Washington, D.C., was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Detectives have been unable to locate Mr. Saltsman’s family and are asking that a family member call the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.

The 16-year-old male driver of the Cherokee and the adult female passenger in the Cherokee were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This remains an ongoing investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this collision is urged to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.  Anyone who is a family member of Mr. Saltsman is asked to call the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
