Detectives Investigate Burglary of Church in Chevy Chase; Surveillance Video of Suspect Released

Detectives from the 2nd District are investigating the October 2 burglary of the Chevy Chase United Methodist Church located at 7001 Connecticut Avenue.  The Police Department is releasing video surveillance of the suspect and is asking anyone with information about him to please call investigators.

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, the suspect forced entry to the church by breaking the glass on the front door.  During the approximately 45 minutes the suspect is believed to have been in and on the grounds of the church, the suspect destroyed several items to include numerous glass windows, an exterior lamp, outdoor planters, and a glass sign.  The suspect ate packaged food and drank bottled water found in a donation bin in the church and left the wrappers strewn about.  He ransacked a classroom and moved boxes from a room into a hallway.  He also stole a flag.
