Suspect Arrested for Two Residential Burglaries in Downtown Silver Spring

For Immediate Release: Friday, October 25, 2019

Third District officers have arrested and charged Steven Anderson, age 56, of Royal Crown Drive in Germantown, with two counts of first-degree burglary and two counts of second-degree assault.

On Sunday, October 20, at approximately 2:15 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to a burglary that had just occurred at a residence in the 700 block of Pershing Drive in Silver Spring.  The two homeowners, asleep on the top floor, had awoken to the sound of a downstairs interior door being opened.  The homeowners went to investigate and encountered the suspect, later identified as Anderson.  Anderson assaulted the residents and fled from the home.  The victims were able to provide officers with a description of Anderson.

Additional officers, to include a K9 officer and his K9, responded to the area to assist in locating the suspect.  The K9 tracked Anderson to the rear of a town home on Ellsworth Heights Street in the Chelsea Heights neighborhood.  Anderson saw the officer and his partner and jumped over an approximately 12-foot wall.  On the other side of the wall, he was met with officers who had created a perimeter around the area.  Anderson then jumped back over the wall and was arrested by the K9 officer.

Upon arrest, Anderson was wearing a coat that he had stolen from a home on Ellsworth Heights Street.  Investigators determined that Anderson burglarized that residence after committing the burglary on Pershing Drive.

Anderson was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.

Detectives are working to determine if Anderson is responsible for additional burglaries that have recently occurred in that area.
