Police Responded to Collision on Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring; Incident Now Being Investigated as Auto Theft

For Immediate Release: Thursday, October 31, 2019

Detectives from the Central Auto Theft Section are investigating an auto theft that occurred earlier today in Silver Spring.

On Thursday, October 31, 2019, at approximately 7:18 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the area of the 300 block of Wayne Avenue for the report of a vehicle collision. When officers arrived, they found a 1999 Subaru Impreza SW and a 2016 Honda Pilot involved in a collision. Officers located a juvenile male suffering from traumatic injuries in the Subaru, who was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The Subaru was subsequently reported stolen.

Four additional victims from the other vehicle were also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial assessment by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service indicated that the male’s injuries could have been the result of a shooting. After a medical examination at a local hospital, it was determined that all injuries were as a result of the traffic collision.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Detectives urge anyone with information to call the Central Auto Theft Section at 240-773-6370. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or enter a tip online.
