Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police- 2
nd District have arrested and charged Yashica Terry, age 39, of the 7000 block of Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda, with crimes to include child abduction, kidnapping, and first-degree assault.
The investigation determined that on Monday, November 18 at approximately 6:51 p.m., a grandfather was holding hands with his granddaughter while walking on the sidewalk on Woodmont Avenue near Norfolk Avenue, when an adult female violently shoved him from behind, causing him to fall to the sidewalk. The female then forcibly grabbed the grandchild and took her into a nearby store. The grandfather began calling out for his granddaughter and told witnesses that someone took her. The grandfather then called 911.
Officers from the 2
nd district arrived to the area and located the grandfather, injured on the sidewalk. Witnesses alerted officers that the man’s granddaughter had been taken into a nearby store by the unknown female. Officers went to the store and located the female keeping the four-year-old child behind clothing racks. Employees stated that while in the store with the child, the unknown female yelled at them and threatened to harm the employees. Officers safely removed the child from the store and took the female, identified as Terry, into custody. Terry stated to the officers that she, “felt the vibe between the male and child was off.”
The 76-year-old grandfather was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The child was not injured and was reunited with her parents.
Terry was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.
