Holiday Alcohol Task Force Enforcement Continues – Week Three

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, December 4, 2019

The Holiday Alcohol Task Force officers have been devoting their full-time and attention to detecting alcohol-related offenses this holiday season.

During this past week’s enforcement (November 26 to December 1), task force officers arrested 38 people for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (DUI).**

During the past three weeks of the Holiday Alcohol Task Force, task force officers have arrested 107 people for DUI.**

**It should be noted that the above arrests include only those arrests made by task force officers and do not include the additional arrests made by patrol officers in the performance of their duties.  Therefore, the overall number of DUI arrests made by officers during this time period is higher.

During this week of enforcement, task force officers on patrol observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on eastbound University Boulevard West in the area of Amherst Avenue in Wheaton.  Near the Wheaton Forest Local Park (1700 University Boulevard West), the same vehicle passed a task force officer’s cruiser at a high rate of speed.  Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle, but the vehicle continued speeding.  Believing that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, officers pursued the vehicle for approximately one mile when the driver lost control of his vehicle in a parking lot on Access Road and struck a curb.  The vehicle became disabled and the driver fled.  The 44-year-old male from Baltimore was quickly apprehended in the area and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and additional traffic offenses.
