Detectives Investigate Burglaries of Self-Storage Units at Kensington Facility

For Immediate Release: Friday, December 20, 2019

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - 2nd District Investigative Section are investigating the burglaries of 47 self-storage units at a facility located in Kensington.  The Police Department is asking anyone with information about the suspect or crime to contact detectives.

On December 2, the unknown suspect entered the Extra Space Storage Facility located at 4950 Nicholson Court by closely following behind a vehicle who had authorized access to the facility via a security gate. The suspect then broke the gate so it remained open for him to exit at a later time. The suspect is seen on video surveillance entering the lobby of the business at approximately 9:40 p.m. and leaving the premises in a white sedan at approximately 10:52 p.m. During the time he was at the business, he broke the locks to 47 self-storage units and stole property from the units to include a bicycle.  He also rummaged through two vehicles.

Detectives are asking victims of these burglaries, who had items stolen from their unit but who have not reported these stolen items to police, to please call investigators at 240-773-6710.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the 2nd District Investigative Section at 240-773-6710.  For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of these suspects.  Call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Tipsters will remain anonymous.
