Juvenile Charged as Adult For Possession of Loaded Handgun and Distribution of Marijuana

For Immediate Release: Friday, January 10, 2020

Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Central Business District (CBD) team have arrested and charged 17-year-old Chase Gomez of Silver Spring as an adult for handgun-related offenses and for the possession and distribution of marijuana.

During the month of December, community members notified CBD team officers of a male who they believe routinely commits crimes in the local community while being armed with a firearm.

At approximately 4:23 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, CBD team officers observed that male in the area of University Boulevard West and Arcola Avenue.  As officers approached the individual, he immediately fled on foot from the police.  As the subject ran, officers observed the suspect discarding marijuana, a firearm, and a digital scale.  The individual was arrested after a brief foot pursuit and was identified as Gomez.  The firearm was determined to be a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Gomez was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is currently being held on bond.

Third District Commander Darren Francke stated:

“This arrest and removal of an illegal firearm would not have been possible without the engagement of the Silver Spring community and the highly professional officers of the 3rd District.”

**Note: Due to his age, a mugshot of Gomez will not be released **
