Detectives Investigate Early Morning Shooting in Silver Spring

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are investigating a shooting that occurred early this morning (January 13) in the 8200 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.  At this time, this incident does not appear to be random in nature.

At approximately 3:05 a.m., the Emergency Communications Center (911) received multiple calls for the sound of shots fired in the 8200 block of Georgia Avenue.  Officers responded and spoke to multiple witnesses.

The preliminary investigation has determined that two groups of individuals were involved in a verbal altercation on the sidewalk in front of 8229 Georgia Avenue.  One of the individuals involved in the altercation entered the driver's side of a black sedan that was parallel parked on Georgia Avenue and drove away.  As the vehicle traveled north on Georgia Avenue, several shots were fired from the vehicle.  Several businesses in the 8200 block of Georgia Avenue were damaged by the shots.

No injuries were reported to police.

Investigators ask that anyone with information about the shooting or the identities of the suspect(s) contact the 3rd District Investigation Section at 240-773-6870.
