Suspect Arrested for Handgun Possession Following Traffic Stop in Gaithersburg

Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 6th District Community Action Team (DCAT) have arrested and charged Samuel A. Martone, age 20, of the 4500 block of Bay Springs Drive in Bay Shore, Mississippi, with firearm-related offenses following a traffic stop that occurred in Gaithersburg.

At approximately, 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15th, 2020, a 6th District DCAT officer conducted a stop of a vehicle for a traffic offense on Frederick Road at Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg.  Officers identified Martone as the driver of the vehicle. During the traffic stop, officers asked for Martone’s vehicle registration. When Martone was opened the glove box and reached in to get the vehicle registration, officers observed a handgun in the glove compartment. Martone was removed from the vehicle and officers recovered a loaded Walther P22 .22 caliber handgun in the glove compartment. Officers also located an additional 420 rounds of ammunition in Martone’s vehicle.

Martone was arrested and transported to the Center Processing Unit where he was charged with possession of a firearm by persons under 21 years old and transporting a handgun in a vehicle.

Martone was released after posting a $7,500 bond.
