DNA Evidence Left at Scene Used to identify Suspect in October Attempted Commercial Armed Robbery in Germantown

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have charged Larry D. Armwood, age 44, of the 12500 block of Cross Ridge Way in Germantown, for the October 24 attempted armed robbery of a Subway sandwich shop in Germantown.

On October 24, 2019, at approximately 9:17 p.m., 5^th District officers responded to the Subway sandwich shop located at 18010 Mateny Road for the report of an attempted armed robbery that had just occurred.

The investigation by detectives determined that the suspect entered the store and displayed a knife.  The suspect immediately vaulted the store’s front counter, threatened an employee who was behind the counter, and demanded cash from the business.  After being threatened, the employee vaulted the front counter and fled from the store.  The suspect then attempted to vault the front counter to chase the employee but the suspect fell and hit his head on the floor, leaving blood evidence behind.   The suspect then fled from the store without obtaining any cash or property.

A DNA analysis was conducted on the blood evidence left inside the Subway.  On December 20, 2019, the Montgomery County Department of Police Crime Laboratory received notice from the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) that the unknown suspect’s DNA matched the DNA belonging to Armwood.

On January 2, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Armwood charging him for this attempted armed robbery.

On January 17, Armwood was arrested on the strength of the Montgomery County arrest warrant and is being held without bond.
