Detectives Investigate Commercial Burglaries at Westfield Wheaton Mall; Surveillance Video of Suspects Released

For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 23, 2020

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - 4^th District Investigative Section continue to investigate two burglaries and an attempted burglary that all occurred on separate occasions to stores inside the Westfield Wheaton mall located at 11160 Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton.  Detectives believe that the same five male suspects committed both burglaries and the attempted burglary. Today, detectives are releasing surveillance video of the suspects and a surveillance photograph of the suspect’s vehicle and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them.

The following incidents were reported to police:

• December 21, 2019 – at approximately 4:57 a.m., the suspects forced entry into the Westfield Wheaton mall and then forced entry into a store located inside the mall. The suspects stole property and fled.
• December 27, 2019 – at approximately 1:47 a.m., Westfield Wheaton mall security personnel observed the suspects forcing entry into the mall. The suspects fled without gaining entry into the mall.
• January 3 – at approximately 1:59 a.m., the suspects forced entry into the Westfield Wheaton mall and then forced entry into a store located inside the mall. The suspects stole property and fled.

Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding these suspects, the suspect’s car, or these burglaries to call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530. Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this crime.
