Montgomery Village Man Charged with Possession of Stolen Handgun After Fleeing on Foot from Police

For Immediate Release: Friday, January 31, 2020

Officers from the 6th District have arrested and charged Devante Offutt, age 24, of the 19300 block of Keymar Way in Montgomery Village, for handgun-related offenses, to include possession of a stolen handgun. These charges are related to Offutt fleeing on foot from officers while police were investigating drug-related activity in Montgomery Village.

At approximately 12:30 yesterday afternoon (Thursday, January 30), 6th District officers observed two males smoking marijuana in the parking lot of the Montgomery Village Center located at 19201 Centerway Road. Officers approached the two males and began talking with them when one of the males suddenly took off running through the shopping center parking lot. Officers observed this male holding his waistband area as he fled. Officers pursued the male and apprehended him. The male was identified as Offutt. Officers located a loaded .380 handgun in Offutt’s waistband.

Through investigation, it was determined that the handgun had been reported as stolen from Anne Arundel County and that Offutt was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a previous conviction.

Officers located marijuana where Offutt and the second male were standing in the parking lot.

Offutt was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with offenses to include possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and possession of a stolen handgun. Offutt is currently being held without bond.
