Suspect Arrested for Possession of Stolen Handgun After Foot Pursuit in Wheaton

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, February 4, 2020

Fourth District officers have arrested and charged Carlos Aquino, age 29, of Aspen Hill Road in Rockville, with possession of a stolen handgun and possession of cocaine.

On February 2 at approximately 1:38 a.m., officers responded to the 11300 block of Georgia Avenue in Wheaton for the report of a male with a gun.  Security personnel at a local establishment told officers that they observed a male with a handgun in the area.  The witnesses were able to provide a detailed description of the suspect to officers.

An officer observed a male matching the description of the suspect walking in the 2300 block of Price Avenue.  When officers attempted to approach the male he fled while holding his waistband.  The suspect ran to a parking garage in the 11300 block of Amherst Avenue and was observed by officers throwing something.  The male was apprehended in the parking garage and was identified as Aquino.  The item he discarded, a loaded handgun, was recovered, and it was determined that the gun had been stolen from Atlanta, Georgia.  Aquino also had cocaine in his possession.

Aquino was transported to the Central Processing Unit and has been released on bond.
