Detectives Arrest Juvenile for Threats to Kennedy High School in Wheaton

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - 4th District Investigative Section have arrested and charged a juvenile male student for making threats of violence and other associated actions.

On Thursday, February 20, 2020, around 2:10 pm, the Emergency Communications Center (911) received a call from, at the time, an unknown caller who stated there was an active shooting situation at Kennedy High School located in Wheaton.  Police and school officials took immediate action to determine the validity of the call.  It was quickly determined that there was no shooting situation at the school and the threat was not valid.

Detectives were able to determine that a juvenile male student was responsible for making the call and was subsequently arrested and charged with making threats of mass violence, disruption of school activities, and false statements to police.

The Montgomery County Department of Police in collaboration with the Montgomery County Public Schools will investigate and charge appropriately anyone who makes threats to schools, regardless of intention, and seek prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
