Detectives Investigate Serious Pedestrian-Involved Collision in Gaithersburg

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a serious pedestrian-involved collision that occurred last night in Gaithersburg.

On Friday, February 21, at approximately 9:19 p.m., 6th District officers, Gaithersburg Police Department officers, and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to South Frederick Avenue (MD - 355) at North Westland Drive for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that the pedestrian was attempting to cross South Frederick Avenue in an easterly direction when, for reasons still under investigation, he was struck by a 2012 Mercedes-Benz C300 that was travelling north on South Frederick Avenue.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz is identified as 32-year-old Mike Nam of Garden View Way in Rockville. Nam was not injured in the collision.

The pedestrian is identified as Douglas Ariel Perez Martinez, age 33, of Duvall Lane in Gaithersburg.  Martinez was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
