Detectives Investigate Attempted Home Invasion Robbery in Derwood Area

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating an attempted home invasion robbery that occurred on Friday, February 28, at a residence in the Derwood area.

The investigation by Major Crimes detectives has determined that on February 28 shortly before 1:37 p.m., the suspect knocked on the door of a residence located in the 7200 block of Titonka Way.  The homeowner opened the door and was met with the suspect, who she described as an unknown race male and approximately six feet tall.  The homeowner stated that the suspect appeared to be wearing clothing similar to that worn by delivery drivers and was carrying a box.  The suspect produced a handgun and the homeowner yelled to a second resident in the home.  During this encounter, the suspect entered the foyer of the home and threatened to kill the two victims.  He pushed one of the victims and struck the other victim on the head with his handgun.  The suspect then fled from the home and dropped the box in the driveway.  The box was recovered by officers; inside the box, officers recovered a duffel bag.

The victim who was assaulted with the gun was treated by Fire & Rescue personnel at the home for an injury to her head.

Detectives located home video surveillance from a neighbor which shows the suspect running to the passenger side of a white van after the attempted home invasion robbery.  The van then flees down the road.
