Detectives Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting in Potomac

For Immediate Release: Thursday, March 12, 2020

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - Major Crimes Division are investigating a shooting this morning in the 12200 block of St. James Road in Potomac.

At approximately 4:30 am, members of the Special Operations Division - Tactical Unit were in the process of serving a high-risk search warrant related to firearms offenses at an address in the 12200 block of St. James Road in Potomac.  During the warrant service, the suspect in the case was fatally shot by an officer assigned to the Tactical Unit.

The suspect has been identified as Duncan Socrates Lemp, age 21, of the 12200 block of  St. James Road in Potomac.

The facts and circumstances of the encounter are still being investigated by detectives from the Major Crimes Division.  The involved officer has been placed on administrative leave per standard protocol and will be identified at a later date.
