Detectives Investigate Serious Pedestrian-Involved Collision in White Oak Area

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a serious pedestrian-involved collision that occurred this afternoon in the White Oak area.

On Thursday, March 19, at approximately 12:26 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to New Hampshire Avenue and McCeney Avenue for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that a 2002 Toyota Camry was travelling south on New Hampshire Avenue and attempted to make a right turn onto McCeney Avenue. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota Camry left the roadway and struck a stop sign.  The Toyota continued travelling across the service road and onto the sidewalk where it struck a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, identified as 65-year-old David Rafael Velasquez of Silver Spring, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Camry, identified as Dasia Kierra Wood, age 17, of Upper Marlboro, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
