Third District Officers Arrest Suspect for Handgun and Drug Possession in Downtown Silver Spring

Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police -3rd District have arrested and charged Zachary Scott, age 39, of the 5900 block of Surratts Village Drive in Clinton, with drug and firearm-related offenses.

On Monday, March 23, at approximately 5:59 p.m., 3rd District officers observed drug activity occurring outside a convenience store in the 7900 block of Georgia Avenue.  Officers approached a subject, later identified as Scott, and determined that Scott was in possession of approximately 11 grams of crystal methamphetamine, approximately 19 grams of MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy), marijuana, multiple needles, and a digital scale.

Further investigation determined that Scott was staying at a hotel located on 13th Street in downtown Silver Spring.  Officers obtained a search warrant for Scott’s hotel room and during the search, they located an Interarms .380 handgun.   It was determined that Scott is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior criminal convictions.

Scott was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.
