Suspect Arrested on Open Warrants; Found to be in Possession of Gun and Drugs

For Immediate Release: Friday, March 27, 2020

On February 28 and March 25, officers from the 5th District - Special Assignment Team (SAT) arrested Shamauri Scott, age 19, of Crystal Hill Circle in Germantown, on the strength of separate Montgomery County criminal warrants for his arrest.  During the February arrest, Scott was found to be in possession of drugs and ammunition and during the latest arrest, Scott was found to be in possession of drugs and a loaded handgun.

On February 28, 5th District officers arrested Scott on an open warrant for charges to include participation in a criminal gang.  During that arrest, Scott was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana, narcotics, and ammunition.  The drugs were tested and confirmed to be marijuana and narcotics.  5th District officers then obtained a warrant for Scott's arrest for drug-related charges to include possession of drugs with the intent to distribute them.

On March 25, 5th District officers were attempting to locate Scott and arrest him on the warrant for his arrest when they observed him walking in the area of his residence.  Scott attempted to flee from officers but was arrested.  Officers searched Scott's book bag and located a loaded handgun, drugs, cash, and a digital scale.

Scott is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his age and prior criminal convictions.

Scott was transported to the Central Processing Unit on the strength of the open warrant.  Scott was charged with additional drug-related crimes and firearm offenses and is being held on a no-bond status.

5th District Commander Mark Plazinski said of this arrest, "I am so proud of these officers.  In the midst of this pandemic they are still committed to accomplishing the mission of this police department and keeping our residents safe from a dangerous armed felon.  The sad fact is that we arrested this same suspect three weeks ago and he currently has four open felony cases.  Our criminal justice system needs to do better."
