Detectives Investigate Shots Fired in Wheaton-Glenmont; Two Suspects Arrested After Pursuit Into Olney

For Immediate Release: Sunday, March 29, 2020

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 4th District Investigative Section are investigating the discharge of a firearm that occurred in Wheaton-Glenmont.  No victims from the shooting were located and no victims were reported to have been struck by gunfire.  During the initial investigation, officers pursued a suspect’s vehicle into Olney where two suspects were taken into custody.  A third suspect from that vehicle remains at large.

On Friday, March 27 at approximately 7:12 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the area of the 12500 block of Georgia Avenue for the report of a shooting that had just occurred.  Witnesses reported that a red vehicle and a white vehicle fled from the area immediately after they heard the sound of shots.   Responding officers located multiple shell casings and broken glass in the area.

A few minutes after the call for the shooting, an officer traveling on Layhill Road observed a red Acura and a white vehicle driving north on Layhill Road at Norbeck Road.  Both vehicles matched the description of vehicles that fled from the earlier shots fired call.  Officers lost sight of the white vehicle but attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Acura.  The driver of the Acura failed to stop for police and officers pursued the Acura onto Norwood Road toward Rt. 108.   During the pursuit, officers observed the front seat passenger in the Acura throwing what appeared to be U.S. currency out of the car’s passenger side window.  Officers continued to pursue the Acura onto Buehler Court in Olney where the car stopped.  The adult male driver of the Acura and the adult male front seat passenger were immediately arrested.  A rear-seat passenger in the Acura fled from the vehicle and has not been located.

During the investigation, no weapon was located but officers did locate multiple counterfeit $100 bills in the area where officers saw the front seat passenger throwing money out of the car’s window.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation.  Charges in this case are pending and the suspect’s names will be released once they are formally charged.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the initial call for the shooting in the 12500 block of Georgia Avenue to contact 4th District Investigative Section detectives at 240-773-5530.  Tipsters will remain anonymous.
