For Immediate Release: Friday, April 17, 2020

Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police - 4th District have arrested Alan Eugene Ballard, age 56, of Silver Spring, with offenses to include driving without a driver's license, driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), and three counts of a handgun in a vehicle.

On April 15 at approximately 11:55 p.m., a 4th District officer was on routine patrol in his marked cruiser and observed a Dodge Caravan make a left turn from Olney Sandy Spring Road onto Old Baltimore Road on a solid red arrow.  The officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver.  The officer noted that the driver, identified as Ballard, had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and was exhibiting signs of being under the influence of alcohol.  The officer also observed a bottle of liquor on the floor of the vehicle.  Ballard was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.  Officers determined that he did not have a driver's license.

During a search of the interior of Ballard's vehicle, officers located three firearms and over 1,100 rounds of ammunition.  Officers continue to investigate the registration records for these firearms.

Ballard was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with traffic offenses and firearm-related offenses.  He has been released on bond.
