Update: Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation in White Oak Continues; Decedent’s Name Released

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the officer-involved shooting that occurred yesterday afternoon in the 1500 block of Hadden Manor Court in White Oak.

The decedent is identified as 30-year-old Finan H. Berhe of the 1500 block of Hadden Manor Court in White Oak.

At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 3rd District officers responded to the area of the 1500 block of Hadden Manor Court for the report of a male who was in the parking lot of the neighborhood and causing a disturbance while armed with a large knife.

A 3rd District officer who was first to arrive at Hadden Manor Court observed Berhe armed with the knife in the parking lot.  The officer exited his patrol car and gave several verbal commands to Berhe to get on the ground and to drop the knife.  Berhe, while holding the knife, rushed at the officer and was shot by the officer.  The officer attempted life-saving measures at the scene.  Fire & Rescue personnel transported Berhe to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
