Second District Officer Arrests Driver for Possession of Handgun During Traffic Stop in Bethesda

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, August 12, 2020

Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police- 2nd District have arrested and charged Jayson J. Carson, age 28, of the 19000 block of Stedwick Drive in Montgomery Village, with firearm-related offenses to include possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and traffic-related offenses to include driving on a suspended license.

On Tuesday, August 11, at approximately 12:19 a.m., a 2nd District officer was on routine patrol and was driving in the area of Westbard Avenue and Crown Street in Bethesda when he conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan Maxima.

The officer identified the driver of the Nissan as Carson.  The officer determined that Carson was driving on a suspended license and that the license plates displayed on the Maxima did not belong to that vehicle.  During a search of the vehicle, officers located an unloaded 9mm handgun and a loaded magazine for the handgun in a bag under the driver’s seat.

It was later determined that Carson is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior criminal conviction.

Carson was arrested and transported to the Central Processing Unit.  He is currently being held without bond.
