Officers Seek to Identify Suspect Who Used Stolen Credit Card Information to Purchase Items Online and Had an Item Delivered to Victim’s Home; Posed as Neighbor in Attempt to Get Delivery

For Immediate Release: Thursday, August 13, 2020

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Patrol Investigations Unit are investigating the July 20 fraudulent use of a victim’s credit card information by an unknown suspect to purchase items online.  The suspect had at least one of the items delivered to the victim’s home located in White Oak and attempted to obtain the fraudulently purchased item from the victim’s home.  Today, investigators are releasing cell phone photographs of the female suspect and are asking for the public’s help to identify her.

The investigation determined that on July 20, the victim noticed that several fraudulent purchases (totaling approximately $2,000) had been made online using her credit card information.  On July 22, an item from one of the fraudulent purchases was delivered to the victim’s home.  The next day, a female suspect knocked on the victim’s door and spoke with a resident of the home. This suspect told the resident that she was a neighbor and that a package meant for her had been mistakenly delivered to that house.  The resident, who knew that the item that the suspect was asking for had been fraudulently purchased, asked the suspect for her name and phone number.  The suspect became irate, left without the package, and fled the area in a black sedan.  The resident obtained cell phone photographs of the suspect before she fled.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the 3rd District Patrol Investigations Unit at 240-773-6830.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
