Suspect Arrested for Possession of a Handgun and Drugs Following Vehicle Pursuit

For Immediate Release: Thursday, September 24, 2020

Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police-2nd District have arrested and charged Talal Bangna, age 20, of Laurel, with crimes to include possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a minor (under 21), possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute it, and traffic-related offenses.

On September 22 at approximately 11:40 p.m., a 2nd District officer was on routine patrol in the area of southbound Interstate 270 (I-270) and Montrose Road when he observed a black Honda travelling in front of him drifting between lanes.  The officer, suspecting that the driver was under the influence of drugs/alcohol, attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Honda.  The driver failed to stop and fled in the vehicle.

Officers pursued the Honda as it continued south on I-270 and then on to Interstate 495 (I-495).  The pursuing officers observed the driver throwing objects out of the driver's window which were later determined to be fraudulent narcotic prescriptions.

In the area of I-495 and New Hampshire Avenue, the Honda struck another vehicle and then a median.  The Honda became disabled and the driver (and sole occupant of the vehicle), identified as Bangna, was arrested.  The driver of the struck vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injures.

Officers searched Bangna's vehicle and located evidence to include a loaded handgun with an extended magazine on the driver's floorboard, a loaded magazine in the driver's side door, drug-related paraphernalia, and marijuana.  When searching Bangna, officers located a large amount of cash on his person.

Bangna was transported to the Central Processing Unit and was released after posting a $3,500 bond.
