Detectives Investigate Assault and Attempted Armed Carjacking in Silver Spring Area; Composite of Suspect Released

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police- Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the September 17 assault of a 46-year-old female and the attempted armed carjacking of her vehicle that was committed by two male suspects and occurred in the Silver Spring area.  Today, investigators are releasing a composite sketch of the suspect who was armed with a handgun and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

The investigation by detectives determined that at approximately 9:00 p.m. on September 17, the victim had just entered her car, which was parked in the 600 block of University Boulevard East, when the two suspects approached her and forcibly entered her vehicle.  One suspect assaulted the victim while the second suspect displayed a handgun.  The suspects stole the victim’s car keys and attempted to flee in the victim’s vehicle while she was still in her car.   The suspects stole property from the victim and fled on foot from her vehicle when they noticed residents approaching the victim’s vehicle.  Both suspects were last seen fleeing in a white Toyota 4-door vehicle which was parked nearby.

The suspect who displayed the gun is described as an approximately 30 to 35-year-old African American male who is approximately 5’ 7” tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds. (see composite sketch)

Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case.
