Home Invasion Robbery Suspect Arrested by Officers As He Attempts to Flee in Vehicle

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, October 7, 2020

Mohammed Timaji, age 17, of Clopper Road in Gaithersburg, has been arrested and charged with armed robbery and home invasion.  Timaji is being charged as an adult.

On Sunday, October 4 at approximately 2:21 p.m., Montgomery County Police- 1st District officers and Rockville City officers responded to the report of a home invasion at a residence on Pitt Place in Rockville. Officers determined that the suspect, later identified as Timaji, had rung the victim's doorbell.  The residents did not know Timaji and did not open the door.  Timaji continued to ring the doorbell and yell that he, "wanted the money."  He then began to punch the door and broke out one of the wooden panels, which gave him access to the deadbolt.  He unlocked the deadbolt and entered the house with a knife.  Timaji pushed one of the residents and obtained cash before running from the home.

The home's video surveillance system captured the incident and a photograph of the suspect (Timaji) was shared with officers.  A MCP K9 officer observed Timaji run between two houses in the neighborhood and enter a vehicle.  Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the suspect as Timaji.  The vehicle was determined to be an Uber and the driver had no connection to the incident.

Detectives determined that there was a dispute between one of the residents in the home and an individual about money owed and that Timaji came to the home to get money.

Timaji was transported to the Central Processing Unit and was released on an unsecured $5,000 bond.

Note: A mugshot of Timaji will not be released because he is a juvenile.
