Two Suspects Arrested for Silver Spring Robbery; One Suspect in Possession of Handgun

For Immediate Release: Thursday, October 8, 2020

Officers from the 3rd District have arrested and charged Anthony Hogan, age 19, of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring, and Daniel Rodriguez, age 17, of Arcola Avenue in Silver Spring, with offenses to include the armed robbery of an adult male and firearm-related offenses.  Rodriguez is being charged as an adult in this case.

On October 5 at approximately 6:20 p.m., 3rd District officers were at a call for service in the 9300 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring when unrelated to the call, they were approached by a male who stated that he had been robbed in July and that the suspects were currently in the area.

The officers learned that on July 30 at approximately 5:30 p.m., the male victim was being dropped off at an apartment parking lot located in the 9300 block of Piney Branch Road by a coworker when the coworker and occupants of another vehicle became involved in a verbal dispute about parking.  The passenger of the other vehicle, later identified as Hogan, punched the coworker in the face and he fell to the ground.  Hogan then began to punch the male victim.  The driver of the other vehicle, later identified as Rodriguez, exited the vehicle and pointed a handgun at the male victim. The victim ran back to his coworker's car; Rodriguez followed him.  Rodriguez again pointed the gun at the victim and stole his book bag which contained property to include cash.  Hogan and Rodriguez then fled the area in their vehicle.

After hearing this information from the male victim, officers searched the area and located Hogan and Rodriguez based on the victim's description of the two suspects.  They were detained and then placed under arrest.  Officers located a loaded handgun and marijuana in Rodriguez' jacket pocket.  Officers found oxycodone pills and codeine in Hogan's bag.

Hogan and Rodriguez were transported to the Central Processing Unit. The two suspects are being held without bond.

Note: A mugshot of Rodriguez will not be released because he is a juvenile.

Note: A mugshot of Hogan is not available at this time but will be added to the release once it becomes available.
