Detectives Investigate Assault and Attempted Carjacking in Downtown Silver Spring; Surveillance Photos of Suspects Released

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, October 13, 2020

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police- Major Crimes Division are investigating an October 7 assault of a 28-year-old male and the attempted carjacking of his vehicle that was committed by three male suspects and occurred in downtown Silver Spring.  Today, investigators are releasing surveillance photographs of two of the three suspects and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.

The investigation by detectives determined that at approximately 8:49 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, the victim had exited his car, which was parked in the 8700 block of Cameron Street, when the three suspects approached him.  One suspect assaulted the victim and stole his property, to include car keys.  The suspects entered the victim’s vehicle and attempted to steal it.  However, they were unsuccessful because they did not know how to drive a manual car (stick shift).  The suspects then fled the area on foot.

Anyone with information regarding the suspects or this attempted armed carjacking is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or submit a Crime Solvers tip online or via the app.  Crime Solvers may pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case.
