Detectives Investigate Attempted Armed Robbery of Check Cashing Business with Shot Fired in Silver Spring

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division are investigating the October 9 attempted armed robbery of a check cashing business in Silver Spring and are asking anyone with information about the suspect or robbery to come forward to the Police Department.

On October 9 at approximately 9:30 p.m., a 41-year-old male was waiting outside of the La Chiquita Express check cashing business located at 632 University Boulevard East when the suspect approached him from behind.  The suspect put a handgun in the victim's back and ordered him to walk into the building.  Once inside, the suspect screamed at the employees to give him money.  The suspect fired his gun into the ceiling and left without obtaining any cash.  The robbery was captured on area video surveillance.

The suspect is described as an unknown race male with a light complexion, approximately 6' tall and with a skinny build.  He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a jacket, gloves, and tennis shoes.  He spoke English with no accent.
