Two Suspects Charged with Rockville Armed Carjacking

For Immediate Release: Thursday, October 15, 2020

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division have charged Michael Castillo Guzman, age 26, currently incarcerated at a facility in Snow Hill, Maryland, and Juan Angel Madrid, age 25, of Gruenther Avenue in Rockville, with the armed carjacking of a 19-year-old male in Rockville.

The investigation by detectives determined that on September 16 at approximately 8:35 p.m., the 19-year-old victim was in the parking lot of an apartment building located in the 12600 block of Veirs Mill Road when he was approached by two males, later identified as Guzman and Madrid.  Guzman attempted to search the victim's pant pockets and then pointed a handgun at the victim's head.  The victim began to run away and Guzman and Madrid drove off in the victim's vehicle (which was nearby and running).  The victim then called 911.

Officers responded to the parking lot and the vehicle's description was broadcast to officers via the police radio.  At approximately 8:44 p.m., MCP and Rockville City officers observed the stolen vehicle in the area of Route 355 and Park Road and attempted to stop the vehicle.  The vehicle did not stop and continued to the area of North Van Buren Street and West Middle Lane.  At that intersection, the vehicle stopped and two suspects (Guzman and Madrid) ran from the vehicle.  A third suspect did not run and was arrested.

Based on their investigation, detectives determined that the third suspect had not been involved in the carjacking and he was released from custody without charges.

Investigators received a tip from the public that led to the identification of Guzman and Madrid as the two carjacking suspects.  Madrid was arrested by MCP officers on September 25 on the strength of an arrest warrant and was transported to the Central Processing Unit.  He is being held without bond.  Guzman is currently being held at a correctional facility in Snow Hill, Maryland, on charges unrelated to this investigation.
