Detectives Investigate Serious Collision on Veirs Mill Road

For Immediate Release: Sunday, October 18, 2020

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a serious collision that occurred this afternoon on Veirs Mill Road at Newport Mill Road.

On Sunday, October 18, at approximately 1:32 p.m., 4th District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to Veirs Mill Road and Newport Mill Road for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation by CRU detectives determined that a 2000 Toyota Sienna was making a left turn onto northbound Newport Mill Road from eastbound Veirs Mill Road when it collided with a 2002 Nissan Altima that was traveling west on Veirs Mill Road.

The driver (and sole occupant) of the Toyota Sienna is identified as Jayantha Malwadamgedara, age 45, of Wheaton.  He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver (and sole occupant) of the Nissan Altima is identified as Alexander Andres Fuentes Trejo, age 27, of Silver Spring.  He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
