Officers Respond to Call to Check Welfare Of Motorist in Montgomery Village; Locate Handgun and Drugs in Vehicle

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, October 21, 2020

Officers from the 6th District have arrested and charged Sean Jones, age 27, of Cornwall Street in Silver Spring, with offenses to include possession of a loaded handgun, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person (due to a prior felony conviction), possession of the drug MDMA (commonly known as molly or ecstasy), and intent to distribute MDMA.

On October 9 at approximately 9:15 am, officers responded to a call to check the welfare of a person who was in the driver's seat of a running car but who appeared to be asleep in the 20300 block of Fulks Farm Road in Montgomery Village.

The first responding officer located the SUV and observed the driver who appeared to be asleep.  The vehicle was on with the keys in the ignition. On the passenger seat, the officer observed drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana.  The officer was able to wake the driver by knocking on the passenger side window.

Officers identified the driver as Jones.  Officers located MDMA in Jones' sock and he was placed under arrest.

During a search of Jones' vehicle, officers located additional vials of MDMA.  Jones disclosed to the officers that there was a gun in the SUV and officers located the loaded handgun between the driver's seat and center console.

Jones was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.
