Suspect Arrested for Handgun and Drug Offenses During Traffic Stop in Silver Spring

For Immediate Release: Monday, November 9, 2020

Officers from the 3rd District have arrested and charged Deion Furr, age 22, of Silver Spring, with criminal offenses to include possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun by a prohibited person due to prior criminal convictions, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute it, possession of a narcotic, and traffic offenses to include driving on a suspended Maryland driver’s license.

On November 4 at approximately 10:13 pm, a 3rd District officer was on routine patrol when he observed a driver commit a moving violation at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Spring Street.

The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Furr.  The officer determined that Furr was not permitted to drive as he had a suspended driver’s license.

The officer noted a strong smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and Furr admitted that marijuana was in the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded handgun with an extended magazine under the front passenger's seat.  Officers also found marijuana packaged for distribution in a duffle bag and other items indicative of drug distribution were located on Furr and in his vehicle.

Furr was arrested and transported to the Central Processing Unit.

Officers obtained a warrant to search Furr's residence in Silver Spring and on November 5, officers searched the residence and located additional evidence of criminal activity to include several pounds of marijuana, a credit card skimmer and information regarding possible victims of fraud, and two handguns determined to be stolen.  The investigation into the items located in the home is ongoing.
