Suspect Arrested for Committing Three Bank Robberies in Montgomery County; Charges Pending for Bank Robbery in Fairfax County

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, November 10, 2020

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged Noel Omar Lorenzo, age 41, of Freeland Road in Rockville, with committing three armed bank robberies in Montgomery County.  Lorenzo also committed a bank robbery in Fairfax County, Virginia, and charges are pending in that jurisdiction.  During this investigation, Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) detectives worked with Fairfax County Police Department detectives to identify the suspect as Lorenzo and arrest him for committing these bank robberies.

During the investigation of the three bank robberies committed in Montgomery County, MCPD detectives concluded that the involved suspect appeared to be the same person.  This determination was based on witness' descriptions of the suspect, a review of the banks' video surveillance, and the similarities in the suspect's modus operandi (MO).  MCPD detectives sent information to surrounding jurisdictions about this robbery trend and the suspect.

On October 28, MCPD Major Crimes detectives were contacted by Fairfax County Police Department detectives who informed them that they believed the same suspect had committed a bank robbery in Fairfax County (Virginia) on October 27.

Detectives from MCPD and the Fairfax County Police Department worked together to identify the suspect as Lorenzo.

On November 4 at approximately 11:10 a.m., Lorenzo was arrested by MCPD officers at his residence on a Montgomery County criminal warrant charging him with three counts of armed robbery and firearm-related offenses.  He was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he is being held without bond.

MCPD detectives obtained a warrant to search Lorenzo's vehicle.  Inside the vehicle detectives located evidence from the Montgomery County bank robberies and Fairfax County robberies and located a BB gun believed to be the weapon Lorenzo used in the robberies.

A summary of the three Montgomery County bank robberies committed by Lorenzo are as follows:

  • September 25, approximately 9:40 a.m., Capital One Bank, 10707 Connecticut Avenue, Kensington.  Lorenzo approached teller, passed a note announcing the robbery, and lifted his shirt to reveal a handgun in his waistband.  He obtained money and fled.
  • October 2, approximately 10:40 a.m., Wells Fargo Bank, 13920 Georgia Avenue, Aspen Hill.  Lorenzo approached a teller, passed a note announcing the robbery, and pointed to his waistband.  He obtained money and fled.
  • October 15, approximately 10:40 a.m., Capital One Bank, 101 Halpine Road, Rockville. Lorenzo approached a teller, passed a note, and pulled a handgun from his bookbag.  He obtained money and fled.
