Third District Officers Arrest Three Suspects for Auto Theft in Silver Spring

For Immediate Release: Thursday, November 12, 2020

Officers from the 3rd District have arrested Maria Argueta, age 26, of Bronzegate Place in Silver Spring, Humberto Guerra, 25, of Bronzegate Place in Silver Spring, and Chassadee Martin, age 20, of Montrose Avenue in Bethesda, with auto theft-related offenses and possession of burglary tools.

On November 8 at approximately 12:35 am, officers were dispatched to the 14000 block of Castle Boulevard for the report of a stolen vehicle that had just been located by the owner’s father.

Officers responded and met with the vehicle owner’s father, who stated that his daughter’s 2007 Toyota Camry had been stolen sometime between October 30 and November 2 from the apartment building parking located at 14000 Castle Boulevard.  Officers confirmed that the vehicle had been reported to MCP as stolen.  The father explained that he had just located the vehicle parked in a different area of the same apartment complex parking lot.  He did not know if the car was occupied.

As an officer drove by the Camry, it began to move and exit the parking space.  The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle fled and drove to the dead-end of Castle Terrace, where it collided with a parked vehicle.

Officers approached the vehicle and placed the driver and two occupants under arrest.  The driver was identified as Guerra, the front seat passenger as Martin, and the rear passenger as Argueta.

Officers determined that the registration plates (tags) on the vehicle were not the ones that were registered to it and had actually been reported stolen from a vehicle on October 5.

Officers searched the vehicle and located tools to commit auto thefts to include pliers, a crowbar, a sledgehammer, gloves,  and a hammer.

All three suspects were transported to the Central Processing Unit.  Guerra was released on 10 percent of a $5,000 bond ($500), Martin was released on 10 percent of a $2,500 bond ($250), and Argueta was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond (no payment at this time).
