Officers Respond to Call for Possible Domestic Violence; Suspect Located and Arrested for Assault, Gun Possession, and Drug-Related Offenses

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, November 17, 2020

Officers from the 3rd District have arrested Charles J Evans, age 30, of Easley Street in Silver Spring, with offenses to include second-degree assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of drugs with the intent to distribute them, and use of a fictitious government identification document (driver's license).  Evans was also served with two drug-related warrants for his arrest from other jurisdictions.

On November 12 at approximately 4:22 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center (911) received a call for possible domestic violence at an apartment building in the 800 block of Easley Street.  A witness called police and reported that a female was asking to use a phone to make a call and she noticed that the female had a black eye.  There was a male who appeared to be looking for the female.  The witness was concerned for the female's welfare.

Officers responded to the address and located the female victim.  The victim, who had a black eye, stated that she had been at the male's apartment when he hit her with his fist and took her phone.  While speaking to the victim, one witness alerted officers that the male suspect was attempting to flee the area carrying a suitcase.  Officers began to search for the suspect.

An officer observed the suspect carrying a suitcase in the 800 block of Bonifant Street.  The suspect then went out of sight for a minute and came back onto the sidewalk without the suitcase.  The suspect was stopped by an officer at Bonifant and Fenton Streets.

The suspect gave officers a fictitious Maryland driver's license but officers were able to determine his real identity as Evans.  Officers also determined that Evans had two drug-related warrants for his arrest.

Officers located Evans' suitcase hidden in bushes on Bonifant Street.  Inside the suitcase officers evidence of criminal activity to include a loaded handgun, over four pounds of marijuana, and multiple fictitious driver's licenses.

Evans is prohibited from owning a firearm due to prior criminal convictions.

Evans was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.
