Suspect Arrested for Possession of a Handgun in Germantown

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, November 17, 2020

Officers from the 5th District – Central Business District Team have arrested and charged Terrill R. Townes, age 20, of Honeybear Lane in Germantown, with possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun by a person under 21, after officers were dispatched for the report of suspicious activity occurring inside a vehicle in a residential neighborhood in Germantown.

On November 12 at approximately 1:52 p.m., 5th District Central Business District Team officers responded to the 20000 block of Dunstable Circle after a resident called police to report that the occupants of a vehicle parked on Dunstable Circle appeared to be smoking marijuana inside the vehicle.

Responding officers located the vehicle, which was occupied by four males, parked on Dunstable Circle.  Upon making contact with the driver, officers immediately detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.  Officers identified Townes as a rear-seat passenger in the vehicle.  While speaking with Townes, officers observed him reach for a bag on the floorboard where he had been sitting.  Officers checked the bag that Townes was reaching for and observed a loaded 9mm handgun inside.  Townes was immediately placed under arrest.

Townes was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with handgun-related offenses to include possession of a handgun by a person under 21.  Townes was released after posting a $3,000 bond.

Townes, along with another adult male inside the vehicle, were issued civil citations for possession of marijuana under 10 grams.
