2020 Holiday Alcohol Task Force Enforcement – Week Three

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, December 8, 2020

Holiday Alcohol Task Force officers are devoting their full-time and attention to detecting alcohol-related offenses this holiday season.

  • During this past week’s enforcement (evening of December 2, 3, 4, and 5), task force officers arrested 35 people for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (DUI).*

    • 8 of the 35 people arrested for DUI were arrested for DUI after being involved in a collision.
  • During the past three weeks of enforcement, task force officers have arrested a total of 104 people for DUI.

    • 17 of the 104 people arrested for DUI were arrested for DUI after being involved in a collision.
  • Task force officers also made the following arrest:

    • On December 6 at approximately 1:12 am, a task force officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Interstate 270 (I-270) North prior to the Middlebook Road exit. When the officer approached the vehicle, he smelled the strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver.  The driver then fled in his vehicle.  As the officer pursued the vehicle, the driver attempted to strike the officer's cruiser and drove onto multiple residential yards. In the area of I-270 South and Farther Hurley Boulevard, the suspect's car became disabled and he was taken into custody.  He was charged with DUI and additional criminal and traffic-related offenses.  He also had an open warrant for his arrest.
*It should be noted that the above arrests include only those arrests made by task force officers and do not include the additional arrests made by patrol officers in the performance of their duties.  Therefore, the overall number of DUI arrests made by officers during this time period is higher.

**For future reference, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is currently a restriction in place that bars and restaurants in Maryland are to close at 10:00 pm and there is currently capacity limits for bars and restaurants.
