Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision in Wheaton Involving a Pedestrian

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred early this morning in Wheaton.

This morning (Tuesday, December 22) at approximately 3:58 a.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Georgia Avenue at University Boulevard West for a report of a serious collision involving a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation has determined that a 2001 Honda Odyssey was traveling south on Georgia Avenue approaching University Boulevard West.  The pedestrian, identified as Ricardo Estuardo Jimenez, age 53, of the 11000 block of Burnley Terrace in Silver Spring, was attempting to cross southbound Georgia Avenue in a westerly direction.  For reasons still under investigation, the Odyssey struck Jimenez on Georgia Avenue.  Jimenez was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Honda Odyssey is identified as Luis Antonio Sanchez-Sosa, age 45, of the 2200 block of Georgian Way in Silver Spring. Sanchez-Sosa was not injured in the collision.
