Detectives Investigate Attempted Sexual Assault on Pedestrian Overpass in Bethesda

Detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are investigating the attempted sexual assault of an adult female that occurred on a pedestrian/bicycle overpass in Bethesda.

On Monday, December 21 at approximately 7:40 p.m., the adult female victim was walking in the area of the pedestrian/bicycle bridge over the Capital Beltway (Interstate 495) that connects Fleming Avenue and Montgomery Road.  As she approached the bridge, she heard someone jogging.  She turned around, saw a male jogging, and continued walking.  The victim was suddenly tackled to the ground by the suspect.  The suspect attempted to sexually assault her and she fought him.  The suspect ran away as the victim called 911.

The suspect is described as a male who spoke with an accent, possibly Spanish.
