Police Investigate Homicide in Gaithersburg

For Immediate Release: Sunday, January 10, 2021

Police are investigating the homicide of an adult male that occurred outside of an apartment building in the unit block of S Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg this evening.

 

Earlier today, police were made aware of a candlelight vigil that was to occur in the unit block of S Frederick Avenue at approximately 4:00 p.m. At approximately 6:11 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center (911) received a call for the report of a shooting that had just occurred in front of a building near where the candlelight vigil was taking place. Officers from both the Gaithersburg Police Department and MCP - 6th District responded and located an adult male victim suffering from trauma.  The male victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

 

The victim will be identified once family notifications have been made.**

 

This investigation is continuing and detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division urge anyone who may have information to contact them at 240-773-5070.  For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Solvers of Montgomery County is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of the homicide suspect(s).  Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online or via the P3 Tips app.


**(1/11/2021): The victim is identified as Darius Cooper, age 25, of Dairymaid Drive in Germantown.
