Suspect Arrested For Homicide on Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton Area

For Immediate Release: Saturday, January 23, 2021

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged Jose Lara-Chacon, age 24, of the 12000 block of Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton, with the first-degree murder of an adult male.

Last night (January 22) at approximately 9:32 pm, the Emergency Communications Center (911) received a call for an assault that had just occurred in an apartment in the 12000 block of Veirs Mill Road. 

Officers responded to the apartment and located a deceased male suffering from an apparent cutting injury to his neck. 

Lara-Chacon was in the apartment when police arrived and was taken into custody.

Investigation by detectives determined that Lara-Chacon and the victim were acquaintances.  They were in the apartment when for reasons still under investigation, Lara-Chacon assaulted the victim with a baseball bat and knife. 

Lara-Chacon was transported to the Central Processing Unit and has been charged with first-degree murder.

The victim’s body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Baltimore where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and will assist in positively identifying the victim.

UPDATE: 1/25/2021 - The victim has been identified as Dimer Josue Diaz Martinez, age 21, of an unconfirmed address.
