Two 16-Year-Old Juveniles Arrested for Armed Carjacking and Attempted Armed Carjacking in Germantown After Pursuit on Interstate 270

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division have charged 16-year-old Narada Coleman, of Northeast, Washington, D.C., and 16-year-old Isaiah Summervillle, of Temple Hills, as adults with armed carjacking and assault-related offenses for the January 26 attempted armed carjacking that occurred at a gas station in Germantown and an armed carjacking that occurred later that night in a residential neighborhood in Germantown.  Coleman and Summerville were arrested by patrol officers after the two led police on a pursuit on Interstate 270.  

On Tuesday, January 26 at approximately 11:30 p.m., 5^th District officers responded to a gas station located in the 18700 block of Liberty Mill Road for the report of an attempted armed carjacking that had just occurred.  Responding officers determined that the 18-year-old male victim had just finished pumping gas into his car when two suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun, approached him.  The suspects demanded the victim’s car keys and assaulted the victim.  The suspects fled the area on foot when another vehicle pulled into the gas station.  The victim was treated for his injuries at the scene.

At approximately 11:39 p.m., 5^th District officers responded to a residence in the 18800 block of McFarlin Drive in Germantown for the report of an armed carjacking that had just occurred.  The investigation determined that the 23-year-old male victim was sitting in his car in front of a residence when he was approached by two suspects.  One suspect, who was armed with a handgun, threatened the victim and demanded his vehicle.  The victim complied with the suspects’ demands and the suspects stole the victim’s car and fled the area.  

A short time later, A Gaithersburg Police Department officer observed the victim’s stolen vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Clopper Road in Gaithersburg.  Gaithersburg Police Department officers and Montgomery County Police officers attempted to stop the stolen car, but the driver refused to stop.  Officers pursued the vehicle onto southbound I-270.   While fleeing from the police on I-270, the driver of the stolen car lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail on I-270 near Democracy Boulevard.  After striking the guardrail, the two suspects fled from the vehicle on foot.  Responding officers located and arrested the two suspects, now identified as Coleman and Summerville, hiding in a nearby residential neighborhood.   Officers observed a loaded .32 caliber handgun on the driver’s side floorboard of the stolen car.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the gas station in Germantown and determined that Coleman and Summerville were the same suspects who had committed the earlier attempted armed carjacking.

Coleman and Summerville were charged as adults with one count of armed carjacking, one count of attempted armed carjacking, and two counts of first-degree assault.  Coleman and Summerville are being held without bond.
