For Immediate Release: Tuesday, February 2, 2021

Officers from the 2nd District have arrested and charged Jerrold Sterling, age 33, of Wheaton, with driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and possession of a handgun in a vehicle.

On January 28, at approximately 4:05 am, the Emergency Communications Center received a call for a person sleeping in the driver’s seat of his vehicle in the road on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda.

An officer responded to the area of Wisconsin Avenue and Montgomery Avenue and located the vehicle stopped in the middle of Wisconsin Avenue. The officer found the vehicle running with the keys in the ignition and in drive.  The driver, later identified as Sterling, was asleep behind the wheel with his foot on the brake.

After multiple attempts, the officer was able to wake up Sterling.  After an investigation at the scene, Sterling was arrested for DUI.  Officers located a handgun in the center console of Sterling’s vehicle.

Sterling was transported to the 2nd District station and charged with DUI.  He was then transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with the handgun offense.  He was released from custody.
