Officers Locate and Arrest 16-Year-Old Juvenile for Committing Theft and Stabbing Germantown 7-Eleven Employee

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, February 3, 2021

Officers from the 5th District have arrested and charged 16-year-old David Nichols, of Silver Spring, as an adult with first and second-degree assault, theft less than $100, and carrying a concealed dangerous weapon for shoplifting at a Germantown 7-Eleven and stabbing a 7-Eleven employee.

On Saturday, January 30 at approximately 9:40 p.m., 5th District officers responded to the 7-Eleven located at 19786 Crystal Rock Drive for the report of an employee who had just been stabbed by a shoplifting suspect.  Responding officers located a 21-year-old male employee inside the 7-Eleven suffering from a stab wound to his upper body.  The investigation by officers determined that the male suspect entered the store, stole property, and then walked out of the store.  The employee followed the suspect outside and confronted him about the theft.  The suspect then stabbed the employee with a knife and fled the area on foot.  The victim and a witness provided officers with a description of the suspect.  Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 7-Eleven and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

A 5th District officer observed an individual who matched the suspect’s description running on Aircraft Drive.  Officers pursued the suspect on foot to a parking garage located on Aircraft Drive and took the suspect, now identified as Nichols, into custody.  During the arrest, officers recovered property from Nichols that had been stolen from the 7-Eleven.

Nichols was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged as an adult.  He is being held without bond.

**Note: a mugshot for Nichols is not being provided due to his age**
