Suspect Arrested for Theft; Detectives Locate $5,000 Worth of Products in his Residence

For Immediate Release: Thursday, February 11, 2021

Detectives from the 4th District – Patrol Investigation Unit have arrested Ricardo Aparicio, age 43, of the 19500 block of Frederick Road in Germantown, with multiple counts of theft for knowingly possessing stolen property.  Aparicio was found to be serving as what is commonly referred to as a fence: an individual that knowingly purchases stolen property and then resells the items to others for profit.

This investigation began when 4th District investigators received information from loss prevention employees of County retailers like Target and Safeway that shoplifting suspects were selling products they stole to a residence on Frederick Road in Germantown.  Through investigation, detectives determined the exact location of the residence and identified the suspect as Aparicio.

On several occasions in 2020, an officer working in an undercover capacity met with Aparicio at his residence and sold implied stolen merchandise to him.  During the interactions, Aparicio told the undercover officer what merchandise he was looking to buy from the officer and offered tips on how to successfully steal the items.

On February 9, 2021, Aparicio was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant at his home.  Detectives searched Aparicio’s residence and located approximately $5,000 worth of merchandise.  Investigators are working to determine which of these products were stolen.

Investigators transported Aparicio to the Central Processing Unit and he was released from custody.  The investigation is ongoing and Aparicio may face additional charges.
