Detectives Investigate Serious Motorcycle Collision in Gaithersburg

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a serious collision involving a motorcyclist that occurred this afternoon in Gaithersburg.

On Thursday, March 11, at approximately 3:47 p.m., 6th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Shady Grove Road at Epsilon Drive for the report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling south on Shady Grove Road approaching Epsilon Drive.  A 2018 Ford Transit van was attempting to make a left turn from northbound Shady Grove Road onto Epsilon Drive.  For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle and the van collided in the intersection.

The motorcyclist, identified as Kereem Cumberbatch, age 31, of Fairfield Drive in Frederick, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  

The driver of the van, identified as Kam Wong, age 71, of Fallow Drive in Gaithersburg, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
